We went off on our next big adventure yesterday with 5 excited kids anxious to learn about life as a Waterman on the Chesapeake Bay. Our adventure began at the Watermen's Museum in Yorktown and our tour guide was Mr. Mike. We learned a lot about the Eastern Virginia waterways and how they were a vital part of life long ago and still today in our area. Mr. Mike talked about water sheds, our environment, pollution and explained to the kids how very important it is to be conscience about our actions and how they effect our world. Next, we went fishing, which was a huge hit and the kids loved getting into the water and using the big net to catch some local water life. In the net they managed to get several shrimp, a few blue crabs, a jelly fish and a mummichog. After carefully checking out their catch they put them all back into the bay. From there we got a very interesting lesson about oysters, clams and scallops and then back into the water with rakes in hand to see what they could dig up and indeed they did find a few clams! When our tour was done we all thanked Mr. Mike and said goodbye to the Watermen's Museum until next time. From there we headed off for our picnic and then playing on the beach. The day was truly special and everyone had a great time. The weather could not have been any better and it was so nice to be back outside after the long hot summer. We all, grown-ups included, learned a lot today and look forward to our next adventure when we can take in more local culture and history and continue to make learning lots of fun!
We are an eclectic home schooling group living and learning in Williamsburg, Virginia. Come join us on our adventures as we learn about the world and all the wonder and magic it has in store for us. This blog journals the free schooling experiences that this amazing group of kids are experiencing with loving and creative teachers and parents as their guides.

The "Not Back To School" Pool Party
Our "Not Back To School"year started off with a party! We gathered at the Kingsmill pool for fun, friendship and of course food! The kids spent hours in the pool playing games and getting to know each other while the moms and Tiffeni visited and also chatted about all the fun and exciting plans we have scheduled for the school year. A great time was had by all and the day flew by and before we knew it, it was time to pack up and say goodbye. This is such a great group of kids and with all that we have planned for them this year they are sure to have a wonderful time learning and celebrating together.
